Volunteering

The Heritage Centre is always looking for extra hands! We have numerous opportunities for you to get involved, whether it be with visitors or behind the scenes.

Below are some of the volunteer roles we’re interested in filling.

If you are in school and require volunteer hours, staff will be happy to record and sign off on those as needed.

Those interested in volunteering can either print an application here, or fill it out online here.

Please be aware that completion of the application form does not indicate your acceptance as a volunteer. Staff will review it and reach out to find the best position for you, and in some cases a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required at the volunteer’s own expense. Staff will provide a letter for you to submit in those instances. The review process may take some time to complete and we thank you for your patience. All personal information is collected strictly for the administration of the Métis Heritage Centre Volunteer Program and is confidential.

Volunteer Positions

Tickets & Reception

This position will involve covering the front desk and interacting with visitors. Expected duties are selling admission tickets, items from the gift shop, answering the phone, and answering any questions visitors may have while they are here.

Tour Guides

This position’s main duties is to guide visitors through the exhibit hall and tell them about the displays. All Guides will be provided with a basic script to use, but are encouraged to put their own unique spin on it!

Collections Volunteer

This position works primarily behind the scenes. Collections volunteers will help out by photographing objects in the collection, updating records and descriptions in our online database, and undertaking additional research to better understand an object’s history.

Events Volunteer

This position can be done in conjuncture with our other volunteer positions. The Heritage Centre may sometimes require additional assistance in order to smoothly run it’s events and programs, and that’s where volunteers come in. It may be running an activity, or helping with set up and take down, or a number of other tasks needed for the event.
